Hourly/Non-Exempt
Reports to: Foreman, Superintendent, and/or General Manager
Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 10 hour work days (typical), longer work days may be necessary
May require Saturday, Sunday, or night shifts when necessary
Subject to seasonal layoff periods
Work Environment:
Job sites are typically located in West Tennessee. The work environment can include excessive heat, cold, wind, rain, and other weather related conditions. At times, work will be conducted on uneven terrain, at heights, and near or over water. The employee will also work around moving mechanical parts, and the noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes, such as asphalt, or airborne particles, such as dust.

Operators operate a variety of equipment and/or trucks used at safety sensitive highway and bridge jobsites in construction, maintenance, and repair. Job duties could vary depending on the jobsite and/or location where the Operator is assigned. New employees are required to complete Safety Orientation, EEO, and Flagger training. All employees are required to perform all job duties in a safe manner in order to avoid injuries to themselves, other crew members, and the general public.
Operator equipment needed: End Loader (3 yards and over) to feed hoppers for asphalt plant.
Job Requirements:
- Proven experience as an operator for the listed Class A equipment (above)
- Excellent understanding of operator techniques
- Ability to read technical documents and drawings
- Willingness to follow safety guidelines at all times
- Good understanding of mathematics
- Ability to work as a team
- Must be able to pass drug screenings and maintain a drug free workplace
- Must be in good physical condition and endurance and pass a pre-employment physical
- Must have good vision and hearing
- Must be able to physically perform the essential duties and responsibilities as documented on the Functional Job Description for this position
- Must possess a current valid drivers’ license and have reliable transportation
- Must be ready to learn from on-the-job training when necessary
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
Essential Job Duties:
- Follow instructions from supervisor(s)
- Skillful operation of equipment (list above) to contribute to project completion
- Safely load and unload equipment from vehicles and trailers
- Assist other crew members with various tasks as needed
- Ensure company equipment, material, and the site are maintained, kept relatively clean, and stored in a safe manner
- Utilize various pieces of equipment to perform operations such as fine grading and finishing, sloping and banking, backfilling, demolition, loading, excavating, and stockpiling
- Perform routine maintenance and safety checks of equipment
- Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment, and clean, lubricate, and refill the equipment as necessary
- Follow signals from loading crews as needed
- Maintain a clean and secure jobsite to eliminate safety hazards
- Carry tools for running parts
- Attendance, punctuality, and reporting to supervisor is required
- Must attend all Tool Box Talks, ongoing safety training, and other on-the-job training
- Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed and as required
- Performs other duties as assigned
